Helbrecht

Helbrecht is the current High Marshal of the Black Templars, the largest Loyalist Space Marine Chapter in the entire Empire of Man. Descended from the Imperial Fists Legion of Rogal Dorn, the Black Templars have been on an unending crusade since the end of the Horus Heresy, never establishing a permanent fortress monastery and instead waging a perpetual war of faith across the breadth of the galaxy. Under Helbrecht's leadership, the Chapter fields thousands of battle-brothers spread across hundreds of crusade fleets, making them one of the most formidable military forces in the Imperium and a terror to every enemy of the God-Emperor. Where other Chapters maintain fortress monasteries and defend specific regions of space, the Black Templars are nomadic warriors, their entire existence devoted to the prosecution of an eternal holy war that has raged for ten thousand years without pause or respite.

The title of High Marshal is equivalent to a Chapter Master in other Chapters, though the Black Templars reject the Codex Astartes in favour of their own traditions, inherited from their founder, Sigismund — the first Emperor's Champion and the greatest swordsman of the Legiones Astartes. Helbrecht is known for his absolute devotion to the God-Emperor and his burning hatred for all xenos, particularly the Orks, against whom he fought during the legendary Third War for Armageddon. His faith is not the quiet, contemplative devotion of a scholar but a blazing inferno of righteous fury that consumes all doubt and hesitation, leaving only the certainty of purpose that is the hallmark of every Black Templar who has ever drawn breath and blade in the Emperor's name.

As High Marshal, Helbrecht commands from his flagship, the battle barge *Eternal Crusader*, one of the largest vessels in any Space Marine fleet. The *Eternal Crusader* serves as both warship and mobile fortress monastery, its vast halls adorned with the trophies of ten thousand years of unceasing warfare, its chapels ringing with the hymns of warriors preparing for battle, its armouries stocked with the weapons of righteous destruction that the Black Templars carry against the enemies of Mankind. His strategic acumen is matched only by his personal combat prowess, and he leads from the front of every major engagement, inspiring his warriors through deeds rather than words. Helbrecht embodies the Black Templars' creed in its purest form: that faith and fury are the only weapons a warrior of the Emperor truly needs, and that the only acceptable end to the crusade is the complete annihilation of every enemy that dares to stand against the light of the God-Emperor of Mankind.

The Chapter's strength under Helbrecht is believed to number far in excess of the Codex-standard thousand battle-brothers. The Black Templars have never accepted the limitations imposed by Roboute Guilliman's Codex Astartes, and estimates of their true strength range from several thousand to as many as six thousand warriors spread across multiple crusade fleets operating simultaneously throughout the galaxy. This makes the Black Templars not merely the largest Adeptus Astartes Chapter but a force whose military might rivals that of some smaller Space Marine Legions of old. Under Helbrecht's command, this vast host has been directed with a strategic purpose that belies the Chapter's reputation for unthinking zealotry, striking at key targets across multiple sectors and coordinating crusade fleets with an efficiency that speaks to the High Marshal's formidable intellect as much as his legendary martial prowess.
