The Half-heard, Loyalist Luna Wolf

A veteran Luna Wolf warrior in ancient Mark II Crusade armour

Iacton Qruze, known as "the Half-heard," was one of the most remarkable figures of the Horus Heresy — a veteran captain of the Luna Wolves who chose loyalty to the Emperor of Mankind over loyalty to his Primarch when the XVI Legion turned traitor. In a story dominated by epic betrayals and cosmic conflicts, Qruze represents something quieter but no less heroic: the courage of an old warrior who refused to compromise his principles even when the entire world around him was collapsing into madness and treachery.
Qruze earned his nickname not through any deficiency but through the simple fact that he was a relic of an earlier age. While younger warriors like Horus Aximand, Ezekyle Abaddon, and even the Mournival captains embraced the aggressive, glory-seeking culture that characterized the Luna Wolves at the height of the Great Crusade, Qruze clung to older traditions and older values — the customs of the XVI Legion as it had been before Horus had reshaped it in his own image. He wore Mark II Crusade armour when his brothers had long since adopted newer marks, he followed protocols that his peers considered outdated, and he spoke of duty and honour in terms that younger warriors found quaint and irrelevant. He was "half-heard" because his voice was the voice of the past, and the Luna Wolves were a legion that looked only forward.
Yet when the Horus Heresy erupted and the Luna Wolves — now renamed the Sons of Horus — followed their Primarch into treachery, it was the old-fashioned warrior with his antiquated values who proved to have the clearest moral vision. While warriors of far greater renown struggled with divided loyalties and shattered illusions, Qruze saw the situation with the clarity that comes from knowing exactly what you believe and why. The Emperor of Mankind was his master. The Luna Wolves had been created to serve the Emperor. If the Primarch chose to betray that service, then the Primarch was wrong, and no amount of charisma, personal loyalty, or military genius could make treachery into virtue.
